cityinsight / Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta or Western Region is a large portion of the southwestern region in Vietnam, over 40,500 square kilometers. As the Vietnam’s rice basket, the Mekong Delta is a watery landscape of green fields and sleeping villages, everywhere crisscrossed by the brown canals and rivulets. The unique southern charm with its welcoming introduction to life along the river is the real draw, capturing the exploration passion of all travelers joining Mekong delta tours.

The Mekong Delta is considered as a “biological treasure” due to the variety of ecological systems. From 1997 to 2007, over 1000 animal species were recorded such as new plants, fish, mammals, lizards and Laotian rock rat (supposedly extinct).
